X Project - Spencer Bugg

  1. Interesting composition and idea. I like how things are working, but I feel the nose is just too....light in value? It's stands out a lot to me and I think it could be turned to be more 3/4 view. Good job!!!

  2. Agreed about the nose. I really like this, Spencer. I think it's one of your strongest so far. The textures really add that bite to sink your teeth into. The green jacket's line work and subtle color shifts are working great. His bottom teeth is the thing that's bothering me. I would say they're too white, but the top teeth don't bother me. Maybe it's the shape. I don't get the feel for a bottom lip, and the top isn't as carefully tooth-shaped as the top.

  3. The color harmony between the soldier's uniform and his eyes is really great. What a way to add unity!

I am not sure if the plane behind him is as pink on your monitor as it is on mine, but it looks too teen-girl ish to me. The planes are so cool, maybe they need a different color?

And way to go on keeping true to the "X"!!!

  4. I like the color scheme! The textures add a lot to it too. However, I didn't notice the dead guy he was holding at first. Maybe up the values a notch - especially in the face. Also the nose on the soldier doesn't really follow the style of the rest of the figure - or at least it seems to me. It seems more characterized and crooked, whereas your soldier looks more realistic.

  5. This composition is really interesting! I would have never thought to use this color scheme, but it works. Great job! I agree with the other comments about the nose. I think that the value is a little bit to light. The other thing that stands out to me is the soldier's tongue. It looks too much like the airplane wing. However, that might just be personal preference.

  6. This idea is so cool Spencer! I especially love how you made an x out of the cross on the man's arm! That is my favorite part! The only thing I don't love is the color of the plane. I know you were trying more intense color but I just don't know how much its working for the piece as a whole.

  7. Nice work. I like soldiers.maybe pop the left collar of the wounded man up a little so it doesn't line up with the medic's arm.

  8. There are many Xs in the composition and the actual subject matter, which is great. I also like the simplicity of the composition which draws attention to the soldiers face.

  9. Really cool texture! Maybe decrease the saturation on the plane? I think it might draw a little more attention to the background than you want. The figures in the foreground are super well done, but the plane in the background just screams LOOK AT ME! Anyway, otherwise I really like it. Nice!

  10. I agree with Andrew and Jarom. Super great, my man! I really like the way the main soldier is rendered. The color/shapes/values are very nice.

  11. I like the compositions of the banners in the back! And I love that it's a war scene - way to appeal to the history buffs out in the world. I am not sure how I feel about the hot pink. It feels potentially a bit odd in the setting and for the scene.

  12. I love your composition! And interesting take on the assignment. The nose does need a little work, probably a darker value.

  13. Clever idea, I like how intense it is. Love the graphic style. The pink is a bit bright for me, but other than that, nice work!
