X Project - Kara Kellett

  1. I think this is cute! I love the overlapping part of the flower petals. The only thing I would say is that the value of the bee is kinda close to the background... maybe push the bee up in value a bit? And I guess the greens are vibrating a bit too... But just a few little tweaks with that and presto!

  2. So playful! What a nice subtle solution to X. The flowers are great. I'm glad you took the time to design each one. I agree with Ariel about the value problems. I'm not a big fan of the bronze color of the background, but maybe it's actually how dark it is that doesn't work for me. I would play with the levels to see whether it works better with the bee dark and the background light or vice versa or something even better.

  3. I love love love the flowers and the cute bee, the flowers really do the "X" RIGHT!!!

As for the background, it leaves something to be desired in order to me a good fit for the foreground. Maybe try different colors and textures back there. It might be cool to look at Mary Blair for that.

  5. I love the vine-y flowers! Such a sweet, subtle play on "x". I think the bee is competing with the value of the background a little bit. I would push them more and make the bee brighter.

  6. I really like your solution for the "x". I also really like how you designed the flowers. I agree with Ariel, the bee needs to stand out a little more from the back ground. I also feel like the line work on the bee's face is a little too thin or light and gets lost. Over all, it is really great!

  7. This one is so cute!! I really like the idea and how subtle the x's are. I just think the image as a whole needs the contrast to be pushed a little more. The lines defining the eyes and the nose I think could be darker. And I think that you could push the value of the bee and the flowers so they stand away from the background! Way cute though!

  8. Very simple design. Seems like the most powerful color is the green stems, it competes for attention with the bee, which if you planned and want it to be that way is great.

  9. I love how the X is subtle so this piece could work for other things! The cuteness and graphic style of this design is really appealing.

  10. Is this illustrator? Always a big fan of illustrator. I really love the flowers in this, but I think you could add a little more detail or contrast of something to the bee, especially on the face. It gets just a little lost between the flowers and the swirly background. Really nice design, though!

  11. You've got a wonderfully designed flat graphic image, but it's fuzzy pixelated background clashes with it. I'd either commit to all flat or render out your bee with some form and shadow. (I vote flat, yay Illustrator!)

  12. Bees! I like the design! I think it would really pop if the bee and the red flowers were a little more light/saturated. Then it would jump right out of the picture. Or fly, whichever it prefers.

  13. Cutest bee. Prettiest flowers. The background is cool with the fuzziness, but the shade of yellow looks kind of like yellow pea-soup or something. Feels a bit muddy.

  14. That is the cutest little bee I've ever seen! I love his little crossed legs, they're so cute and they work in the x theme! I think if you work on differentiation your values, especially between the foreground and background, you might be able to see the guy a bit better.
