So I wasn't able to scan my piece in time for the blog post but I will be scanning it for the actual competition. That being said, my colors are slightly off, and the contrast isn't as high as the physical piece.
Alright this one is more true to the original color...see, much different
This is great! You nailed the art style and gestures of the pose. My only suggestion is to maybe add some contrast (in value) between the background and foreground. Good job though.
ReplyDeleteThis is super pretty! I would just scan it in and fix her left eye (the further away one). It's too high. I always do that too on 3/4 views. At least look at it flipped and it will be more obvious.
ReplyDeleteI don't think her left eye's high. It seems to match the angle of the lips. The pattern in the kimono is excellent. It's bothering me a little bit how close the lips are to the side of the face. I like how the eyelashes extend past the face, and I kind of wish her head was turned a bit more, so the lips can do the same. Another thing that would make this better is the angle and placement of the diagonal bamboo stick behind her head. It's creating a tangent with her fan pin. I would move it a little to the left.
ReplyDeleteAmen, I want to see some anatomy on the eye.
ReplyDeleteAnd the colors all work in unity together, I can't wait to see the scan because this is already really great!!!
This is one of my faves! I love all of the detail you put into the penmanship - it definitely paid off. I also love the subtle x's you put everywhere - in her hair, the bamboo, and on her kimono. Very clever. Maybe add more value and contrast in her hair for stronger definition, and so it doesn't look like a bunch of lines piled on top of each other.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, I love how it turned out! I especially love your line work in the hair and on the kimono. The hints of pink on the cheek and under the chin are really nice. Fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteLooks five hundred a thirty seven times better in person. So perfect.
ReplyDeleteWow, so so lovely. I love the line work of the hair and flowers especially. I almost wish the bamboo was continued down but maybe that's personal preference. Love the patterns and tiny flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Really cool. Not really a criticism, but what if you made the hair completely black and added white lines for texture/direction? I think it could look really cool. But this looks awesome! Good job!
ReplyDeleteI see Bethanne's advice about patterns in folded fabric came in handy. Looks great! Sweet saturated colors, I almost want the background to have just a tad more contrast, but overall really beautiful piece.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cody. The only thing it needs is a little more contrast between foreground and background. Other than that, AWESOME. Also, Japan. So you win.
ReplyDeleteNICE colors. GORGEOUS hair and patterns on kimono. I love it all contrasted with the simplicity of the face. That hair is killing me though. Really captivating. The only thing I would say is the bamboo could be composed more carefully, potentially.
ReplyDeleteI love your detail on the character! I think the flowers need to have more saturation! But other than that, I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo elegant! Ironically, I like how the photo version has a pink undertone, it ties in with the flowers in the hair, but really other than thinking a little about that, I wouldn't change a thing.
